Heart Transplant Pumpkin for Halloween at ISIS

The folks at ISIS (Institute for Simulation and Interprofessional Studies) did a fantastic job again this year in the UW Med Center pumpkin contest. They used our beating heart simulator to construct a truly awesome Halloween creation. Check out the video!

When your hair falls out, you might as well go hat shopping

Hair started coming out in earnest last night. I took that as an excuse to go buy a few hats. Byrnie Utz Hats has to be one of the greatest stores of any variety that I have ever visited. They’ve been in business since 1934, and I doubt the interior has changed in that whole time. I spent about an hour trying on hats – from Stetsons to Panamas. In all I went a bit hat crazy.

Crushable Borsalino

Italian Wool

Irish Wool

Brown Fedora

Straw Hat (in case we see the sun again)

Of course, none of the will ever fully replace the old stand-by: my Sounders hat.

Electric Car Charging at Sea-Tac airport (Nissan Leaf)

I was supposed to fly out of SEA-TAC today to go a meeting in San Francisco.  I couldn’t resist taking this picture of 5 Nissan Leafs in a row, using the free charging stations. (Mine is the 5th in line). Only in Seattle. Of course, the 6th and last electric car charging spot was taken by an internal combustion SUV.

Thanks to the Port of Seattle for providing this resource! Unfortunately, the flight was cancelled due to the snow/ice storm, so I won’t be able to make it to the Empower Interactive meeting with Kaiser Permanente. The team will be coming up to Seattle on Sunday to start filming for the next iteration of our program “Good Days Ahead.”
